I had years when nothing improved significantly. Income didn’t improve much either. And I had no space or I wasn't willing enough to invest in really great development. In fact, I was ruled, by my agenda, appointments, endless to-do-list, project deadlines, other assignments and professional responsibilities.
I lacked a couple of things that prevented me to reach my next professional level.
First of all, I wasn't clear about my professional home. Where would I want to be in service?
Secondly, I didn't know what my work values were. I didn't know I even had work values! Those values that define what makes work fulfilling. What top 3 characteristics need to be in my work to be able to get out of my own way and perform beyond myself.
And I also lacked routines to stay up-to-date with my daily tasks.
Which changed. I now honor my top 3 work values which are doing good, learning and results. I am on my way to become a firm, structured and compassionate coach for professionals in knowledge intensive organizations who holds them as powerful, no matter what. And the only thing I need from my coachees to support them getting their desired results, is their true intention to apply for a coaching program. Just that. Closely aligned with my top 3 values; doing good, learning and results!
What's in this post for you? I think that if you came to this point, there is something in it you can relate to.
Let me share 3 tips to unlock your next professional level.
3 tips to work from where you want to be:
TIP #1. Get clear on what you want to work for in the long run. Imagine your most beautiful, fulfilling and confident work future. What would you do, where would you be, what would you wear, what would you deliver, who would you be working with?
TIP #2. Discover what your top 3 work values are. What’s important for you to experience in your work, to do your work and to contribute or accomplish through your work? These are not necessarily the world's top 20 core life values like freedom, respect, peace, happiness. To be able to gain from work values, they need to be your's truly; your words, your own stuff.
TIP #3. Use your top 3 work values to work from where you want to be. Use them to perform. Use them to decide; to delegate -, to immediately do -, to block time for - or to don’t do a task. In fact, use them to choose and do. Using your top 3 work values tremendously helps to set priorities and stick to these at ease.
