In conversations, 1-on-1 or in a small group I strike a chord, easily. And every now and then even like magic.
However, in texts? Still not the way I want. I’m on my way, my clients are my best teachers in these, and I do love to write, so sooner or later I will strike a chord through my texts too. Even in 30 page - or more - reports!
So, what's different with my texts?
My head. My knowledge. Every must -, should -, could -, would do or wish-to-do I learned about websites and LinkedIN profiles along the way. Functioning today like tiny obstacles that do everything except; touching the core.
Me. My thoughts. Where, in a conversation, it’s not about me. At least, not all time :-).
And as I am writing this, it crosses my mind; maybe my screen is in my way here. Let’s give it a try to record my words spoken.
3 tips to strike a chord through text:
TIP #1: It’s about whom – or what you care for. Where your heart is in your work. Start expressing your texts from there.
TIP #2: It’s about them. The people or the ‘what’ you care for. Use their questions, their challenges, like they’ve phrased it. So, yes you do have to get 1-on-1! Which can be done from behind your desk using your phone, but you do have to have conversations.
TIP #3: And it’s about the tone, more than the actual words. Which is easier captured spoken than written. So, if you recognize not being enthusiastic about your text, give it a try; record your voice and get it transcribed. And yes, I do mean enthusiastic! Satisfied is not where you, deep down, want to be.
Have fun and a good laugh about your funny sound recorded. I’ll give it a try – and a good laugh myself too.
